Visually, the first change you can find is the exhaust system. The previous version was of the “4-4” type, with two separate exhaust pipes on the left and right sides, while the new model adopted a “4-1” right exhaust design. This change contributed 2 kg to the weight loss.

The second change is to use a thicker split seat (20 mm increase), the rear of the backrest is upward to prevent passengers from sliding backwards and also provides lumbar support for the rider. This shift effectively improves driving comfort. The seat height has been increased from 815 mm to 835 mm.

The third change is that the front windscreen is upgraded to a 4-level height adjustment with a larger angle, which improves the windproofing effect.

The suggested retail price of the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX 2020 is US $12,399. Compared to the BMW R 1250 RS 2020’s suggested retail price of $15,695, it is much cheaper. The quoted price in Thailand is about 164,500 yuan. If you enter the country, you can check the price of the old Ninja 1000, which is estimated to be around 190,000+.

Cycling experience

Those who passed the test were riding for 2 days in a row with a route of about 260 km per day, obviously felt that the new seat cushion was more comfortable than the previous one, and there was no obvious pain in the hips and waist. The 20 mm thickening is very manageable. The upper body can be completely upright and the driving triangle is very comfortable.

Although the windshield of the test car has 4 levels of height adjustment (one level more than the previous model), it is still small and the wind blocking effect needs to be improved. When driving at high speed, the upper body can feel an evident wind resistance pressure. Kawasaki seem to have prepared a larger windscreen to choose from.

Average fuel consumption is about 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres, with a 19 litre fuel tank and a range of over 300 kilometres. This fuel consumption performance is quite impressive.

Dynamic performance

In addition to improving your travel comfort, the 1000SX 2020 also focuses on digging into sports performance.

Output power characteristics : the low to medium torque output is stable and linear, without being abrupt. This upgrade, while complying with the Euro-5 standard, there is no loss of power or torque.

However, with a 140-horsepower power reserve, it is destined to be a fast horse. The 135km/h fixed speed cruiser is very comfortable, and there are no vibrations. Performance in Curves: The performance of the ABS in curves and the tilt angle sensitive traction control system is comparable to the flagship model H2 SX. Let the rider have peace of mind, concentrate on riding and bend over for fun. The new Bridgestone S22 tyres provide excellent grip and ground response.

The new instrument can display the value of the body tilt angle. On the test ride, the rider tilted it to 52 degrees (for the truck, the tilt angle is not small). Even at such an extreme tilt angle, the SX showed good tracking.

Driving quality : the newly added cruise control function has obvious effects on long-distance navigation. The operation is also very convenient. On the road, when the cruising speed is set at 135 km/h, the speed is around 6000 rpm, which is very comfortable.

With the support of the upward and downward quick-shifters, it is relatively smooth when there is no upward shifting of the clutch, especially at high speeds, when the speed is below 5000 rpm, the smoothing effect is worse. This is not as good as the similar system on the Kawasaki ZX-10RR, the shifting is smooth and effortless.


The new Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX is sportier and more comfortable, and its ride function has been further enhanced. Owning an SX is equivalent to owning a mock sports car and recreational cruiser at the same time. You can have fun, travel and go long distances. The key price is relatively fair.
